We offer both heat transfer and sublimation decoration methods. Both imprint methods use heat to transfer an image and are cost-effective since they allow for full-color printing at single-color pricing! But what’s the difference?
Heat transfer decoration offers more flexibility when it comes to printing on different materials. The process involves printing a design onto specialty paper with the CMYK Full Color Process and applying it to the top of the material using a heat press. Once applied with the heat press, peel away the paper and your design will have adhered onto the material. Sublimation is limited to 100% polyester fabrics but with heat transfers, you can decorate just about any fabric! We can even apply heat transfers to select headwear!
Heat transfer is known for high-quality print results. While heat transfer produces vibrant designs, several factors can influence the final result. Not using suitable ink can affect color accuracy and durability. To ensure optimal color intensity and image clarity, temperature, pressure, and other heat press parameters must be properly adjusted during production.
As mentioned earlier, heat transfers can be used on almost any type of fabric. Use heat printing, remove printing, and insert transfers on hoodies, jerseys, t-shirts, and more for personal use or promotions. Heat transfers also play a role in industrial applications when it comes to labeling, office space decoration, and product identification. Remove this last sentence.
The sublimation heat transfer process starts with the printing of a design onto special transfer paper using sublimation inks. Afterward, the transfer paper is placed onto the target and a heat press is applied. The sublimation ink converts from a solid to a gas due to the applied heat and pressure, leaving a breathable imprint on specially coated polyester materials. This process literally dyes the material, so you don’t have to worry about the imprint fading, cracking, or falling off. Ink applied in dye sublimation won’t fade or wash off because the ink is not on the surface, but absorbed right into the fabric, becoming an integral part of it.
While sublimation may not be applicable for certain materials, there are a wide variety of items out there that work great with this process such as polyester apparel, mouse pads, coasters, and drinkware.
In addition to material type, color profile is also a key consideration. If you sublimate other than white or very light colored blank products, you might not be able to see the results, though the dye will technically transfer.
